
ABOUT THE AUTHOR - BARBARA S. GARRIEL

Barbara is a full time writer and teaching author. She presents her programs in schools, libraries and museums. Barbara began her career as an elementary school teacher. She taught in the North Shore School District in Long Island, New York. Barbara's extensive classroom experience was highlighted by her creative and dynamic program, bringing the joy of learning to her students. Her passion for reading, writing and music were evident throughout her curriculum. Barbara studied writing with noted professionals, including Lucy Caulkins at the Columbia University/Teachers College Writing and Reading Project, Ralph Fletcher, author and consultant, and also at the Highlights Foundation Writers' Workshop at Chautauqua and Hofstra University Summer Writing Institute. Her first children's picture book is titled I Know a Shy Fellow Who Swallowed a Cello. She also wrote and co-produced an original song to accompany the book. Barbara is also a nature enthusiast. She has written such non-fiction titles as: Wolves and Their Ways, The Underwater Life of Rivers, Endangered Sea Life, and Coral Reefs: Underwater Cities.
