| "As
Director of Arts Education for Friends of the Arts, I am always looking
for artists of high caliber who are able to make their art form accessible
to young people and inspire them to read, write and learn. It was
therefore my great pleasure to work this year with Barbara Garriel.... Ms.
Garriel is not only a talented writer and dynamic presenter, but her
background as a classroom teacher enables her to connect with audiences of
every age and level of
interest."
Lois Kipnis, Director of Arts Education |
| "Barbara was very enthusiastic in her presentations and tailored them to meet the different age and interest levels of her audience. (pre-K to 9th grades) Even before the day of her actual performance, Barbara was very helpful and detailed-oriented in the planning process and was a pleasure to work with." Ruth Lorbert, Library Media Specialist, East Woods School |
| "Thank
you for making our Author Day, here at St. Joseph's School, so
special. Your ability to adapt your presentation of "Write Out
Loud" to all our grade levels from K-8 was amazing. Your
enthusiasm, warmth and knowledge was evident to our students and teachers
alike. You kept the interest of our students from the moment they
sat down."
Mrs. M. Salvietti, Primcipal, St. Joseph's School |
| "Earlier this
week, about one hundred second and third graders at our school had a
unique and delightful experience of meeting the author, Barbara
Garriel. She came to our school well equipped with large size
versions of her books, and cardboard instruments, puppets, music
equipment, but most outstandingly she brought her charismatic
personality."
Kathleen Smith, 3rd Grade Teacher, Holy Family School |
| "Many
if the teachers came to me to express what a great job you had done.
Your energetic personality and your ability to work with such a diverse
population of students made the day at Captree Elementary an outstanding
learning experience for all. The children are still asking for your
books."
Christine Boris, School Media Specialist |
| "Both
teachers and students enjoyed these visits immensely. Barbara
presented and explained about the process involved in writing a book...
The presentation was delightful and informative. ..The staff have
requested return visits from Ms. Garriel in the future. Our third
grade teachers were so impressed with the author's presentation that they
have requested that they would also love to see her Writer's
Workshop."
-Constance Beckerman and Sharon Ornstein, Tecumseh Elementary |
| "What impressed me most was the author's ability to tailor the
presentation to her audience. The students received much more than a
meeting with an author. Her talk with the children included the usage
of her Writer's Notebook which we have been trying to teach the children
to use. This visit made the reason for the notebook come alive as a 'real'
author showed them how to use it. The two groups were diverse in their level of understanding and Ms. Garriel was able to change her presentation to fit the groups easily. She intuitively knew when to question the group more deeply for understanding and when to move on to another subject. I would highly recommend Ms. Garriel as a speaker to any age group of children. Ms. Garriel is an exciting, inspiring author that children can relate to. She talks to them at their level and listens as many adults forget to do. Well done!" Donna L. Skahill, Teacher, San Diego Unified Schools |
| "You made the effort to teach them something about writing and what good
writers do when they develop their ideas for a book. The students were talking about their writing journals for weeks to come. I wish you could hear your words from their mouths. You truly motivated future writers at Clay." Shelagh Appleman, Principal, Clay Elementary School |
|
"Her warm and genuine manner with our young students, coupled with her generous professionalism was greatly appreciated." Cheryl A. Boccard, Associate Director, Anne Brower's School |
|
"She had the students mesmerized. She brought
with her many examples of her work, in all of its stages. She explained in
a thoroughly exciting and interesting manner what the process of
inspiration and writing was for her. Dr. Robert Fredericks, Principal, Saint Peter of Alcantara School |
|
"I totally enjoyed the puppet as
well as your ENTHUSIASM. Joanne S. Greig, Amityville School District School Librarian |
|
"Barbara is full of life and vigor in her presentation, which is enjoyed by all ages. Her background as a teacher comes through, showing her ease with an audience. Barbara Garriel is well worth the presentation of what an author is and can be." - James H. Hackett, Northwest Elementary School Principal |
|
"Thank you for your
wonderful presentation to our Girl Scout Troop. Both the girls and I were
entranced by the story of how you came to be a writer and loved all the
things you brought to show us." JsfgdfJ |
