Workshops
Barbara offers dynamic, educational, and age appropriate presentations and writing workshops designed for students Pre-K to 12, educators, and adults of all ages.
Barbara’s thoughtfully constructed and interactive writing workshops cultivate blossoming artists by sharing with them the writing skills they need. Topics include: getting started and overcoming writer’s block, writing non-fiction, and craft and revision. These workshops invite students to investigate and practice effective and educationally sound writing tools, techniques, and strategies.
The professional development programs for educators support and complement the curriculum, with topics such as launching a writers’ workshop, creating literacy backpacks for a home-school connection, and using music as an integral part of a literacy program. Barbara also offers a Creative Writing workshop for adults.
Barbara works with individual classes, grade-levels, assemblies, and offers residencies. She presents her programs in schools, libraries, summer camps, museums, and other public venues and for groups, such as Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Adult Education.
“It was great to have the children meet a published author who also knew how to teach. I admire your work and your presentation was by far the best of any author who has visited; and we’ve had many.”
M. Tuminelli, Lynwood Elementary
“Barbara deftly draws upon her talents as an elementary teacher, author, and singer-songwriter to masterfully weave an engaging, insightful program that relates her interesting life/professional experiences while teaching useful literacy skills that can be used in the classroom.”
